How to Fold Plastic Bags for Easy Storage and Travel

I keep plastic grocery bags for use as garbage bags, and as we all know they do accumulate. At one point there were far too many bags overflowing the container under our kitchen sink and the situation was quickly getting out of hand.

Fortunately, my sister –who uses plastic bags when camping and backpacking, taught me an easy trick to tame these unruly bags. Her simple secret helped me to both save space and organize the kitchen.

I’d like to share this great idea with you too, so in this short video I’ll demonstrate how to perform this simple fold, and maybe bring some organization into your life as well.

Now we can fit ten times the number of plastic bags in the same container,
ready to reuse and recycle!

  1. Thank you so much for this wonderful idea of folding these plastic bags. I has become so easy for me to fit it in my purse. Say thanks to your sister. I loved it.

  2. *note on my comment it was supposed to go to a different page where the bags interconnect to each other and can be placed in a tube t be pulled out one at a time. (ended up using the triangle fold technique to keep all my bags in a small area, this article is the best for storing lots of bags in a small place!

  3. Everytime I try this (using different techniques from different videos) with my plastic walmart sacks they always come out five or six bags at a time! I have tried wrapping tigher, looser, stacking with only handles touching the bag up, stacking the new bag right after rolling past the last handle, everything! Nothing seems to work for me. :(

  4. Love it! I am going to teach my 6 year old grandson to do this for his Mama. I feel this would also heighten awareness in children as well as adults to the importance of recyling and making use of materials. Even a plastic bag, when folded, can look great.
    Thank you, Leyla!

    Best always,
    Rosemary
