How to Make an Origami Coffee Bean

Who can resist the aroma of freshly brewed coffee on a cool morning or rainy late afternoon?

Born and raised in Colombia, a coffee-growing country, I remember helping my grandmother, Mamá Ana, pick coffee berries from her coffee bushes as a young child. I had to pick carefully and select only those berries that were red and ripe.

Mamá Ana would collect and process the berries we picked which provided a lot of the coffee for our family. Her coffee was super delicious! Yummmmm…..

In Colombia we were always told that we grew “the best coffee in the world”. The legendary -and fictional, Juan Valdez was charged with making sure that the coffee-loving population in the Northern hemisphere felt that way too.

I’m sure that my Nicaraguan, Costa Rican, Vietnamese or Ethiopian friends will say that their coffee is the best in the world as well.

And we would all be right!

The best coffee, the best tea or the best food is always that which we grow up with. The comforting taste of home-made food elicit the same feelings everywhere, and anywhere, one calls home.

So let’s sit together in the spirit of friendship, take a piece of paper, have a cup of coffee –whichever kind you like best, and make some origami. And what better model to make today than an origami coffee bean, of course!

Here I’d like now to share a video to make an origami coffee bean of my own design. I hope you enjoy it!

Tips and suggestions for making the origami coffee bean

  • In the video the bean is demonstrated using thin Kami paper, known in the U.S. as “origami paper”.
  • Any thin dark or light brown paper would be suitable to make this origami coffee bean.
  • Use a piece of paper 6×6 inches (15x15cm.)
  • The finished coffee bean shows only one side of the paper. It isn’t necessary to use paper with a different color on each side.

I like to have a small sweet biscuit, like an Italian biscotti, to go with my coffee. If you are a coffee-lover too, then what about you? What do you like to have with your coffee?

  1. I love coffee! And I can’t wait to try this fold. It was nice to imagine you as a sweet little girl, picking coffee beans with your grandma :-)

  2. Hi Leyla,
There is nothing that compares to wrapping your hands around a mug filled with steaming hot coffee on a cold winter day! Or the aroma of fresh brewed coffee in the morning. I make a honey and cinnamon “paste” and spread it on toast and have it with my coffee. Also, I add a dash of cinnamon to my coffee instead of creamer or sugar. So good!
Let’s raise a mug to Origami Spirit!
    Have a happy day!
