This paper puppet takes no time to make and will be a delight for the kids in your life. Parents, teachers, grandparents, aunts and uncles will love to make it! This talking puppet comes to join a collection of other fun paper toys featured in Origami Spirit.
The creative minds of two origami designers came together to create this delightful and easy paper puppet:
- David Donahue came up with a double pyramid, which he uses as a card or iPhone stand.
- Rikki Donachie turned the double pyramid into a delightful talking puppet by changing the direction of just one fold.
This is a great example of how to be creative with origami by applying a small transformation to a previously created figure. Looking for ways to modify existing models, and then visualizing what they can become is a way to start making our own origami figures.
This video will give you instructions on how to turn the double pyramid into a paper puppet. In no time at all you will be playing with your students, your children, your grandchildren, your nephews or your nieces!
- A square of paper 6 x 6 inches (15 x 15 cm)
- Access to this 4 minute video.
- A marker to draw the eyes or two little paper circles and glue to paste them on.
Optional things to add to the puppet:
- Paper ears
- Hair made with paper or yarn
- A tongue
- A hat
- A bow tie
Origami purists might wiggle about pasting tongue, eyes and hair to this puppet, but sometimes we have to sacrifice purism for the sake of having a lot of fun!
