An Eco-Friendly Box Made of Recycled Material

When my friend Tricia Tait attended an origami convention in Brazil, she learned to make the box in the photograph. It is made from a coke bottle cut in a half. It could be used for many purposes, but for the paper folders, it is a perfect container to carry and protect small models.

Here are the diagrams to make the box.

This plastic jewel is a brilliant example of the ingenuity of the Brazilian paper folders, and learning how to make it would’ve been enough for me to be satisfied of having attended the NYC convention. Needless to say, there were million things that I enjoyed at the convention, but this small box is my (pentagonal) star of 2007.

  1. The bottle box is really cool! But I’m even more interested in finding out about an origami convention in Brazil! Do you know the name of the convention, or a website for it? I live in Brazil, and I would love to attend one!

    • You have to make sure that the flaps are cut down to the waist of the bottle. Not above, not below it.
Close one flap, then the adjacent one and so on until you close them all.
You might have to try with a few bottles before you get the hang of it. Good luck!

  2. Hola Leyla:

Ya conocía lo de la botella. Sencillamente genial. Gracias por tus aportaciones. Hace tiempo que olvidé, o mejor dicho tenía aparcada esta afición, y al encontrarme nuevamente con tu página se me volvió a encender la chispa.
    Gracias
    Un saludo

    Manuel
