Video – How to Fold an Origami Abundance Hen

Don’t you love the symbolism of hens? prosperity, fertility, abundance, the feminine force, maternity, and the beginning of life. I designed this origami hen a while back and it became the inspiration for Origami Spirit logo.

This origami hen is called  ‘Abundance Hen’ because as a container it can be filled with various small items. Depending on your choice, the hen can be a great hand-made gift for different occasions: Easter, a gift for a birthday or mother’s day, or a favor for a baby shower.

Here is a video on how to fold the Origami Hen. My wishes for prosperity and abundance for you always!

Ideas on what to use to fill this cute origami hen:

  • chocolate mini-eggs
  • jelly beans
  • m&ms
  • dried beans or rice
  • beads
  • buttons
  • felt eggs
  • tiny pebbles
  • dried petals
  • dried lavender flowers
  • dried herbs
  • confetti

  2. I made a family of hens and baby chicks for Easter. Very impressed by the way your design takes the classic water balloon origami base and creates something new and unexpected – these endearing chickens have such personality!

Here are mine (I experimented with different thicknesses of paper to see which would hold the curve of the model best – I liked the big yellow/red Mama Hen best):

I am also having fun trying to fold the Calla Lillies, thank you for providing great seasonal models to celebrate Easter!

    • Very nicely folded Anna. I like the paper you used and how the pattern comes through to make the plumage of the hen. Thank you for sharing! I wanted to leave a comment on your site, but couldn’t.

  3. This hen is such a wonderful origami design; precise, elegant and imaginative, just the way I like it :) Thank you for sharing, this will be a great Easter package/gift for my friends and family.
I also consider wet folding it from a thicker piece of paper or maybe even stiffened fabric.
Although I usually prefer diagrams, your video instructions are great. Folds are easy to follow and the rythm of folding and explaining is perfect!
