Video Tutorial – “Gift House-Box”

A model design of Román Diáz (House) and Leyla Torres (Box)

Origami Model of of a Gift House-Box designed by Roman Diaz and Leyla Torres

Do you like to fold origami boxes and containers? You’re in luck! Here at Origami Spirit, we feature origami boxes and containers and we’re sure you’ll enjoy this model. You can find other origami boxes and containers in this gallery >>> HERE

In these video tutorials, you will learn how to fold two boxes created by Leyla Torres which were designed to be a perfect fit for a house model created by Román Díaz. The house functions as a lid for both boxes and when assembled they make a delightful gift box that is useful for many occasions.

I had always seen Roman’s house as a possible container lid but had not been successful in designing one until the middle of 2021. The boxes follow a similar folding method as a traditional masu box but the points of reference vary so that each box perfectly fits either inside or outside the house walls.

Tips and suggestions for making the base boxes (bases)

  • A good paper size to learn this models would be 6 × 6-inch (15 × 15 cm)
  • The finished base boxes show one side of the paper.
  • BASE BOX 1 fits inside the house and can be made with an identical color paper used for the house. That way it looks like a house foundation and it will match the color of the roof.
  • BASE BOX 2 fits outside the house and can be made of a different color or pattern so that the walls of the house feature a different color or pattern.
