Within Origamigos, the OrigamiSpirit Membership, we had a conversation with origami creator Michał Kosmulski as a part of our monthly interview series.
During this hour-long conversation, Michał shared many ideas including an underlying inspiration connecting his work to prehistoric handprints found on cave walls, fifteenth-century Polish battles, and how spectacles seen in the night sky reflect into his origami work.

Michał Kosmulski is an origami artist known for his innovative designs and contributions to the origami community. Here’s a look at his journey in the world of paper folding.
EARLY YEARS
Michał Kosmulski, an origami designer from Poland, began his journey in paper folding at eleven. His passion for the art form took a significant leap in late 1999 when he discovered modular origami, which he focused on almost exclusively for many years.
ARTISTIC EVOLUTION
A pivotal moment in Kosmulski’s origami career came in 2015 when he attended his first origami convention. This experience inspired him to explore tessellations, quickly becoming his favorite style. Motivated by this new direction, Kosmulski began designing his own models, pushing the boundaries of his creativity.
Around this time, he also began sharing his work on his personal website and various social media platforms. This gave him the opportunity to showcase his artistic vision and connect with fellow origami enthusiasts worldwide.
CURRENT FOCUS
Michał’s main artistic focus right now is primarily on the design of tessellations and boxes. He also enjoys modular and figurative designs, and he is always experimenting with various origami styles, including wet folding. In his designs, Michał prioritizes elegance and a clean aesthetic. With tessellated designs he makes an effort to avoid the visible grid lines typically seen in such models.
COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS
Michał’s passion for origami extends beyond model design. He is an enthusiastic educator, who has conducted numerous workshops at origami conventions both in person and online. His interest in the art form also includes the materials used.
His website features several paper reviews, reflecting his curiosity about the origami medium. Michał’s expertise and contributions to the field have led to invitations as a special guest at origami conventions such as Origami Deutschland (Germany, 2023) and Plener Origami (Poland, 2023).

“Origami a hobby that has become an important part of my life. It takes a lot of my time, but it’s also a big joy to create something new, and to be able to share it with others.“
“I think when we meet at conventions, and we can fold and have fun together despite differences in age, education or worldview, we may be doing more for sane international relations than many official programs.” ~Michał Kosmulski
