How to Make an Origami Flower and Leaves

Origami flowers can be quite lovely and have the added benefit of lasting longer than natural flowers. The origami flower presented here is a design of Vicente Dolz (Spain), also the creator of this Chihuahua dog.

Vicente’s origami flower is beautiful alone, when arranged with leaves, or when combined with other flowers.to make a bouquet

The following step-by-step video will show you how to make this model. I’m always excited to feature flowers here on Origami Spirit so thank you, Vicente, for giving permission to present your origami flower here.

Tips and suggestions for making the origami flower

  • Thin paper like “Kami” known in the US as “origami paper” works well.
  • Paper such as “Tant” or regular office paper would also make good choices.
  • In the video, the origami flower is demonstrated using a “Kami” paper.
  • A good size to learn the model would be 6×6-inch (15×15cm)
  •  Once you have practiced with bigger paper try making it with paper measuring 3×3-inches (7.5×7.5 cm) or smaller.
  • Even if your first few origami flowers turn out a little crinkly you will be adding to your paper-folding skills.
  • The leaf is  made exactly the same as the flower but with green paper.
  • This origami flower uses the “frog base” (demonstrated in the video). If you know this base, skip to minute 5:30.
  • Arrange the flowers in clusters of five, with or without leaves, to make decorative origami bouquets as shown in the photo below. They can look like geraniums.

Vary the look of the final flower by making the last fold more or less deep as shown in the photos below.

Experiment using different papers and colors. The flower below is made with white onion skin paper.
