Video Tutorial – “Curved Box with Blades”

A model design of Gerardo Gacharná

Do you like origami boxes and containers? You’re in luck! Here at Origami Spirit and in the Origami Spirit Membership, Origamigos we feature many boxes and containers we’re sure you’ll enjoy. You can find these origami models in this gallery >>> HERE

For Gerardo Gacharna’s (Colombia) origami figure “Curved Box With Blades” you are shown not only how to fold the model, but you are also given suggestions for what to modify to make variations.

This box can be made with different kinds of paper as long as it’s thick enough otherwise the box will not be sturdy.

The tutorial is found inside Origamigos, our sister site for members.

Origami terms to note:

  • Precrease: Marking the paper by folding and unfolding. When we pre-crease, we are setting the stage for later steps in the folding process. Precreases are usually made when we begin a set of folds.
  • Soft-roll fold: to fold the paper very softly as if rolling, but without making a crease.
  • Lock: When locking occurs, an area of the paper is fixed at a particular configuration so that it stays in place and cannot be easily unfolded.
