Do you like to fold origami animals? You’re in luck! Here at Origami Spirit, we feature origami models we know you’ll enjoy so be sure to visit the ORIGAMI ANIMALS MODEL GALLERY.

The pictures above show the Messenger Hen, created by Leyla Torres. With some modifications and different paper size specifications, we can have different uses for this origami hen:

  • A Messenger Hen –Can be made with a small piece of paper (6 x 6 inch / 15 x 15 cm) and hold a rolled paper with a message.
  • A Napkin Holder Hen –A larger piece of paper (10 x 10 inch / 25 x 25 cm) is used to turn this hen into a napkin folder.
  • An Egg Holder Hen – Can be made with a square paper cut from a USA Letter-size or A4

Tips and suggestions for making the Messenger Hen

  • Any thin and crisp paper is ideal to use for these hens. In the video, one hen is demonstrated using regular printer/copy paper cut in a square and another is shown using white and pink kami paper.
  • Use a piece of paper that’s at least 6 x 6 inches (15 x 15 cm.) when you make this model for the first time.
  • The finished hen shows both sides of the paper. It is best to use paper with a different color on each side.
  • If you work with printer paper, the second video shows how to color the area of the head and crest.
