Origami Model of a Messenger Hen, in paper. Designed by Leyla Torres

Do you like to fold origami animals? You’re in luck! Here at Origami Spirit, we feature origami animals we’re sure you’ll enjoy. You can find these origami models in this gallery >>> HERE

With some modifications and different size specifications, we can have different uses for this hen:

  • A Messenger Hen –Can be made with a small piece of paper (6 x 6 inch / 15 x 15 cm) and hold a rolled paper with a message.
  • A Napkin Holder Hen –A larger piece of paper (10 x 10 inch / 25 x 25 cm) is used to turn this hen into a napkin folder.
  • An Egg Holder Hen – Can be made with a square paper cut from a USA Letter-size or A4

Inspiration Source

The source of inspiration to develop the Messenger Hen was a Hen-Basket, designed by José Meeusen available here on OrigamiSpirit.com.

Tips and suggestions for making the Messenger Hen

  • Any thin and crisp paper is ideal to use for these hens. In the video, one hen is demonstrated using regular printer/copy paper cut in a square and another is shown using white and pink kami paper.
  • Use a piece of paper that’s at least 6 x 6 inches (15 x 15 cm.) when you make this model for the first time.
  • The finished hen shows both sides of the paper. It is best to use paper with a different color on each side.
  • If you work with printer paper, the second video shows how to color the area of the head and crest.
