Origami Video Tutorial – Bookmarks – Corazón y Corbatín

A model design of Leyla Torres & Julio Salcedo

An origami model titled "Bookmarks - Corazón y Corbatín" designed by Leyla Torres and Julio Salcedo

Do you like to fold origami animals? You’re in luck! Here at Origami Spirit, we feature origami models we know you’ll enjoy so be sure to visit the ORIGAMI ANIMALS GALLERY. Check out our FLATS & CARDS collection too!

In this video tutorial, you will learn how to fold a pair of origami bookmarks named Corazón and Corbatín (Heart and Bowtie).

I am very excited to share these origami bookmarks because they allow for the experience of (easily) applying a “Close Sink” fold which involves pressing a point inside the paper creating a lock that does not easily come undone.

The model is based on a cat head by Julio Salcedo (Colombia). Julio taught me how to make the head of a cat from a 2:1 piece of paper, which I then turned into a bookmark by changing the paper proportion to 1:4–a longer narrower strip––and then adding heart and bowtie design elements.

Tips and suggestions for making the origami bookmarks

  • Thin and crisp paper such as kami (used in the video) is perfect for the Corazón y Corbatín.
  • When folding this figure for the first time, cut paper strips from a piece of paper at least 8 x 8 inches (20 x 20 cm.)
  • This is a flat model suitable for mailing in a flat envelope.
