Make an Origami Horse in Less than a Minute post image

This origami horse takes only six folds and can be made in less than a minute!  When I designed this horse I was inspired by a origami origami rocking horse shown on a previous post.

Perfect for use as a bookmark, this origami horse has a convenient little pocket that can be inserted in the corner of a page in a book. It may also be used as a cupcake topper, invitation or thank-you card for a horse-themed birthday party.

The following video shows in detail how to fold this easy origami horse (design of Leyla Torres).

The horse has many symbolic meanings.  2014 is the Chinese Year of the Horse (Jan 31, 2014 – Feb 18, 2015). Let’s welcome it by making an origami horse for a family member or friend born on the year of the horse.

People born on the year of the horse are said to be flexible, patient, loyal, charitable, changeable and headstrong. The horse is also a symbol of power, grace, beauty, nobility, strength, vitality, endurance and freedom.

  • Paper of different color on each side is ideal.
  • As a bookmark: Use a square piece about 6×6 inches (15 x 15cm).
  • As a cupcake topper: Use a square piece about 3×3 inches (7.5 x 7.5cm).
  • As a decoration for an invitation card: Use a square piece about 3×3 inches (7.5 x 7.5cm).
  • Use paper with a stripe pattern, and it will be an origami zebra!origami-horse-zebra-card

Oh, Leyla, this is so easy and sweet! I made some from pink, blue and purple 6″ squares, added little silver horns from 1 1/2″ squares and voila! Unicorns! Thank you!

Leyla, I have never folded this and today took the time to – it’s lovely! So clever, easy and very nice looking :) Your timing is so perfect! I have a person I’ve been wanting to write a note to, but not sure what exactly to say or how much. Anyway.. just today I found out that she volunteers at a horse barn! I’m now going to make a bigger horse and add a brief note in the pocket of the horse. My problem is solved and I’m sure she’ll love it :) Thank you so much!

You are very welcome Kathleen! It makes me so happy when I can find the precise origami to give to someone. I’m happy it happened today for you!

So cool! And just in time to use as a tuck-in for International Correspondence Writing Month, for which I was seeking flat, simple, interesting models. Thanks!

Well, Leyla! Another stunner. I just posted my reminders for the February meetings and my blogpost for the January meeting, then I opened you email, and it almost looks like we copied each other in some of the text, but I know we didn’t, because of the timing (and because we wouldn’t do that, in any case). I guess it’s another example of “great minds think alike”! :-)
Thank you so much for your generous sharing of your origami and making the wonderful videos. I would like to add your Horse Head to my line-up for my Feb meetings. I assume it would be OK, since this is posted openly?

I will definitely want to try folding this one as well.

I like your “stick horse”. Maybe send it to the Denver Broncos to “compete” with the Origami that the Seattle Seahawks put out !! :-)
