Are you a “cat person” by chance? Ever since our cat, Coco, adopted John and me as her family, in 2012, she became the ruler of our home and of the origami studio in particular. If you too are owned by a cat, like we are, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
In 2002, the International Fund for Animal Welfare designated August 6th as World Cat Day. This date is acknowledged in countries around the world. The United States has it’s own annual National Cat Day on October 29th.
But what do our feline companions care about a special day set aside to honor them, when they have our love and affection every single day?
I happily go along with Coco’s whims. Her temperament is calm and soothing, and a constant reminder to slow down and relax. What a role model!
To honor the cats in our life, I’d like to share three video tutorials, each teaching how to fold a different origami cat.
Traditional Origami Cat and Variation
These two easy-to-fold origami cats were first featured in a blog post entitled Origami Cats for Emilio. The first one is a traditional origami kitty. The second origami cat is a variation of mine based on the first one. Remember how making a variation of existing origami models is one of the first steps on the road to origami creation.

Origami Cat Love
This origami heart and cat are super easy to fold. The heart is the creation of Brians Tjipto (Indonesia). The model has a pointy flap that forms a convenient pocket into which a love message or romantic invitation can be placed. I added the cat as an insert to express love for my feline home pet.
