How to Make a Cute Origami Dress -Fifties Fashion

If you make this origami dress, I guarantee you will fall in love with it and you’ll probably end up folding a whole line of dresses to fill your closet. Who wouldn’t want a closet full of such delightful origami dresses!

Since it folds flat, you can use it to paste on an Artist Trading Card (ATC) or be part of an origami greeting card.

This origami model was designed by José Meeusen, a prolific designer from The Netherlands. In a previous post we shared a lovely origami Hen Basket she designed as well.

You might want to start your dress collection by choosing the most appropriate paper patterns to represent each season of the year: spring, summer, fall, and winter.

You can fold this cute Fifties Origami Dress from the following video tutorial. Thank you José Meeusen, for granting me permission to present your model.

Tips and suggestions for making the origami dress

  • In the video, the dress is demonstrated using thin kami paper, known in the U.S. as “origami paper”.
  • Any other paper –such as gift-wrapping paper or printed paper from old magazines, is suitable.
  • For a striking effect, the colors of each side should be different.
  • A good size for paper is 6×6 inches (15×15 cm). Cut it in half to make two equal rectangles. You can get one dress from each rectangle.
  • If the papers you find have the appropriate color on only one side, then color the opposite side yourself.
  • If you can find the right colors you can make four origami dresses, representing the four seasons of the year: spring, summer, fall, and winter.
